Super sketchy billing policies. I just got to my scheduled appointment with Dr. Nyousha Yousefi and I was told that a new policy requires me to leave a card on file or pay an extra $100 just in case my insurance decides to not cover a regular specialist visit, and that I might be refunded after 90 days in case my insurance paid them.

This was a regular follow-up specialist visit for which I only have a $15 co-pay. My insurance never refused a claim and I never had to pay extra (other than the $15 co-pay) for regular specialist visits.

I do not trust a company asking for an extra $100 and “maybe a refund in 90 days” or to authorize them to use my credit card as they please indefinitely for what it should have been a routine specialist visit.

★☆☆☆☆

I chose The Dermatology Specialists - Hell's Kitchen because they had an earlier appointment available than Advanced Dermatology. While the treatment itself was completed, my experience with pricing, billing transparency, customer service, and payment practices was disappointing.

According to my insurance Explanation of Benefits, The Dermatology Specialists - Hell's Kitchen billed $300 for a standard office visit, compared with $138.22 billed by Advanced Dermatology for a similar visit. They also billed $300 for CPT 17110 and an additional $100 for CPT 11056, which my insurance did not cover, leaving me responsible for $100 plus a $15 copay.

What surprised me most was the $100 charge for CPT 11056 (corn and callus trimming). After reviewing the billing code and researching the procedure, I learned it is generally a routine treatment involving removal of thickened dead skin tissue. I understand that medical pricing varies between providers, but I was surprised that this service generated the largest out-of-pocket charge of the visit.

The billing process was equally frustrating. On May 21, I received an automated email stating that my card on file would be charged the following day. I immediately contacted the billing department to discuss the charge, but had difficulty obtaining basic claim information and was repeatedly redirected between departments. When I finally reached the local office, I was told the pending charge could not be paused.

At this point, this is no longer about the money—the balance has already been paid. I am sharing my experience because I believe prospective patients should understand the pricing, billing, and automatic payment practices before making an appointment. Had I known these costs and billing procedures in advance, I likely would have waited for an appointment elsewhere.

Based on my overall experience, I cannot recommend The Dermatology Specialists - Hell's Kitchen. The medical care was completed, but the combination of significantly higher charges, lack of billing transparency, difficulty obtaining assistance, and short-notice automatic billing practices outweighed the convenience of getting an earlier appointment.

If you choose this practice, I strongly recommend requesting detailed pricing estimates in advance and carefully reviewing payment and billing policies before receiving treatment.

This company is horrible and misleads you into appts. This is the 3rd time I go for a scheduled appt and there is no doctor there and they want you to see a PA(appt was made specifically for the doctor) Today i decided to see the PA then after i am undressed they tell me they can't do my screening as they don't have a piece of equipment needed(a scope to look at skin) but that i could see the PA for my other issue but i would have to make and pay for another appt. There website is completely misleading. They show doctors schedules for appts but those doctors don't even work at this location. Guess they do it just to get you in the door. 2 appt's ago the doctor i had my appt with no longer even worked for the company they confirmed my appt with that doctor and they didn't say anything until i got there. I have also had billing issues with this company, billing me for a co-pay when my appt was paid 100% out of pocket for tag removal. 1 of the employees said they know about the misleading on line appts and were trying to fix it. This has been going on for a year now. take it down if you can't fix it....

Nope. They changed my appointment with the MD to someone who is not a doctor and notified me via text 2 hours before an early morning appt - not even a call. I showed up anyway bc I thought they couldn't possibly change my appointment when I'm already on my way. AVOID THIS OFFICE! Dr Yousefi is fantastic but this location is disorganized. Receptionist is not very friendly and she seems annoyed to be doing her job. She's got her back to patients most of the time, making you feel like you're bothering her for showing up for your appt.

🚨The wait time is at least 1 hour on weekends at this location🚨

Terrible experience - do not recommend coming here on weekends, as they are understaffed.

Hopefully the corporate team takes some action here by hiring more people for the weekend shifts there or having less appointments to reduce the backlog. I’ve always had good experiences with Dermatology Specialists, so this situation was particularly disappointing.

I am giving it a 2 star review because the provider who I saw was actually very good, but I need to call attention to this situation.
