Unlike general-purpose directories that list any business willing to pay, NewYorkLists operates on an editorial review model. Every submission is manually evaluated by our team before publication. We assess each business for legitimacy, professional standing, and relevance to the New York City market. Not every submission is approved.

How We Review Listings
Manual editorial review. Every business submitted to NewYorkLists is reviewed by a member of our editorial team. We verify business information, assess professional credentials where applicable, and confirm the business is actively operating within New York City’s five boroughs before approving any listing.
Merit-based approval. Listings are approved based on the quality and legitimacy of the business — not on advertising spend. Paid plans offer enhanced visibility and profile features, but do not influence whether a business is approved for inclusion in the directory.
Ongoing quality standards. Our editorial team periodically reviews existing listings to ensure information remains accurate and businesses continue to meet our standards. Listings that no longer meet our criteria are subject to removal regardless of listing status.
