The NewYorkLists Editorial Team is responsible for reviewing, approving, and maintaining every business listing published across our directory. Our role is to ensure that every business featured on NewYorkLists meets the standards of legitimacy, accuracy, and professional standing that our users rely on when making decisions about service providers in New York City.
What Our Editorial Team Does
Reviews every submission manually. No listing on NewYorkLists is published automatically. Every business submission is assigned to a member of our editorial team who evaluates it against our listing criteria before a decision is made. This process applies equally to free and paid submissions — listing plan selection does not influence editorial outcome.
Verifies business information. Our team confirms that submitted businesses are actively operating within New York City’s five boroughs, that contact information is accurate, and that the business category selected accurately reflects the services offered. Submissions with unverifiable or inconsistent information are rejected or returned for correction.
Assesses professional standing. For regulated industries — including legal, accounting, financial, medical, and construction services — our editorial team checks for appropriate licensing, accreditation, or professional credentials before approving a listing. Businesses operating in regulated fields without verifiable credentials are not approved for inclusion.
Writes editorial descriptions. Every business listing on NewYorkLists includes an editorially written description prepared by our team. These descriptions are not written by the businesses themselves and are not reproduced from business websites. They are independently written to give users an accurate, neutral summary of what each business offers and how it positions itself in the market.
Moderates client reviews. Our editorial team reviews all user-submitted reviews before publication. Reviews that appear fake, incentivized, or in violation of our review standards are removed regardless of whether they are positive or negative. Businesses cannot request the removal of legitimate negative reviews.
Maintains listing accuracy over time. Publishing a listing is not a one-time event. Our team periodically audits existing listings to verify that business information remains current and that listed businesses continue to meet our standards. Listings found to contain outdated or inaccurate information are updated or removed.
Our Editorial Standards
NewYorkLists operates on a straightforward editorial principle: listings are determined by merit, not by advertising spend. Paid listing plans provide enhanced profile features and increased visibility within the directory — they do not influence whether a business is approved, how it is described, or how client reviews are moderated.
We apply the same review criteria to every submission regardless of business size, industry, or listing plan. A multinational firm with a New York City office is subject to the same editorial process as a sole practitioner operating out of Brooklyn.
Our editorial team does not accept payment, gifts, or incentives from listed businesses in exchange for favorable descriptions, review moderation outcomes, or preferential placement outside of our published listing plan structure.
Submitting a Correction or Concern
If you believe a listing on NewYorkLists contains inaccurate information, represents a business that no longer meets our standards, or includes a review that violates our moderation policy, you can contact our editorial team directly at info@newyorklists.com. We review all editorial concerns and respond within 3–5 business days.
Our commitment is to maintain NewYorkLists as a reliable, editorially sound resource for anyone searching for business services in New York City. That commitment begins and ends with the standards our editorial team applies to every listing we publish.
