This studio is AWESOME! I reached out to them because my 12 year old daughter really wanted to take a dance class while we were in NYC. The staff responded immediately and were extremely helpful and accommodating. When we arrived for the class, the front desk attendant was warm and welcoming and made us feel right at home. They have a plethora of classes to choose from, but My daughter decided to try a tap class with Dre. While it was a bit above her level, they let her give it a go. She absolutely loved it! Dre was so engaging, energizing, and positive, I wanted to jump in and tap myself! Everyone in the class was so encouraging and talented and helped my daughter rise to the occasion. Thank you BDC! We will definitely be back! :)
Have had mostly good experiences here, with a couple rough ones. Some of the teachers are very kind and considerate, but there was one time where I went to a beginning jumps and turns class, and most of the people there were professional dancers; I asked a question about a piece of choreography, and the teacher said, in front of everyone, “if this is hard for you then dance may not be for you.” I left and reported her immediately. BDC apologized for her behavior and credited me so I give it more stars for them taking accountability and rectifying the situation. There can be a problem with overcrowding and I wish teachers would explain spacing to newbies so that everyone has space and safety.
I was extremely disappointed with the 3:00 p.m. Sheila’Jazz class today. I was treated differently by her simply because I was wearing jeans.I explained that I decided to attend the class at the last minute because I had something scheduled at 6:00 p.m. and wanted to spend the time productively.
When I tried to move to the front, she pushed me to the back and said that she did not like jeans. I said ok no problem. During the class, she corrected every other student’s movements and posture, but deliberately ignored me. After about 30 minutes, I felt very helpless and frustrated that I had paid for a class only to be treated this way, so I told her that I would leave early. She also showed clear impatience.
Throughout the entire experience, I remained polite because I did not want to disrupt the dance class. But I do not understand why I should pay to attend a class taught by an instructor like this. We are customers—we pay to be here, not to be treated unfairly or differently!
I have danced with BDC before and it is PHENOMENAL!!! I love BDC but my experience today was not so great but it was because of the instructor. I am hoping that this will bring light to the instructor involved. I had booked a drop in Theater class with Rebecca Frazier but she had a sub. Matthew Prescott. When I arrived I got my shoes on and I could see Matthew through the window and he was on the phone. I go to enter the studio when it is time to start class and he is putting his jacket on. He informs me that because only 2 people signed up that he would not be teaching. I asked what I needed to do and he responded with “they will be up to tell you what to do” and walked out. Ok no big deal. It sucks that I traveled all the way there for my class to be canceled but I understand. At this point the other student came in and I told her what had just happened. We went to meet with the people at the desk when the three of us (2 students and 1 desk employee) meet and discuss next steps. At this point Matthew had went back to get his hat and stops us in the hallway and says “sorry you two just aren’t worth my time”. It was completely rude. I’m not upset that he canceled the class but that comment was very unprofessional and rude. Even the employee was in shock. BDC responded great by giving me a full refund because I am from out of town and wouldn’t be able to use a class credit soon. I myself am a professional in the dance industry and an instructor and just felt that Matthew’s comments and attitude was completely inappropriate. I know this doesn’t reflect what BDC is and I hope that they take this into consideration when grooming Matthew Prescott in the future.
This Company gets it. The classes are organized and easy to book online and when you arrive, you are directed to the studio accordingly. Ive come here a few times and each time everything is very seamless and the classes were fun. They have all forms of dances and even have special deals and offers to make dancing affordable. I will definitely be back again and I highly recommend others come here as well.
