Intro to drawing with Simon
The instructor was very helpful and structured each class around a different focus, which kept the course engaging and allowed us to learn a variety of techniques. He would spend some time demonstrating and drawing before giving us the freedom to work independently, striking a great balance between instruction and creativity. He wasn't overbearing, but was always available to provide guidance and feedback, and it was easy to ask for extra help when needed. The small class size created a welcoming and collaborative environment where everyone interacted and learned from one another. We regularly critiqued each other's drawings, which was especially valuable because it helped us see our own work from new perspectives and improve our skills.
I took intro to drawing with Simon and loved it! I had zero experience, but he gave me actionable tweaks to improve my very limited but growing skills. Great way to decompress from work and learn something new! Attaching a picture of my final result!
Class was informative and helpful and not too $. Learned super basics, like shape, perspective, and shading. Simon was fantastic, he was helpful, and insightful, and gentle with new people, and funny. Do it.
Simon is a wonderful teacher. I took introductory to drawing 3 week session. I learned so many foundational tools to drawing that made me feel confident to continue drawing. Simons feedback helped a lot. You can tell he is passionate about drawing and helping you improve and grow
I've always wanted to try joining a figure drawing session, and I'm so glad my first experiences were with Drawing New York. The atmosphere at these sessions is so comfortable, friendly and welcoming, I felt right at home from the start. Even as a shy introvert, I've never felt out of place - both Simon and Jeff truly understand the art of creating a space that is neither excluding nor pressuring, but just the right amount of calm yet open and joking, and it was easy to come out of my shell. During my short four weeks in NYC, I couldn't help but join 5 sessions, and they are some of my fondest memories. Every session had its own unique model, and I feel like I learned so much simply by participating and challenging myself - it was just the right space for it. Before my first session I was worried what and who to expect, but I felt right at home and I truly believe what their website says: "All levels are welcome"! And it surely helps that the sessions are located at one of the most gorgeous and most inspiring buildings I've visited in the entire city - a nice bonus for sure!
I'd give a hundred stars if I could. I hope I can come back and join again one day :)
