My bachata journey started with Sensual Movement in January 2025, and since the first class I took with Natalia, I consistently started coming to SM classes and socials multiple times a week. And, thanks to SM and its instructors, I have been able to improve a lot - still a long way to go but I feel that I learn something new each time I attend an SM class/social.
I have recently been taking great pre-social classes taught by Natalia and Javi, and I like it when Jeff&Mayra teach as well. I appreciate that the instructors are also willing to dance with students during socials, it’s very encouraging.
The Wednesday and Friday socials are always fun, I like the venues, the music (DJ Selphi and DJ Willi are great), and the SM team that makes it all happen (shout out to Tara and Ziri 🤗). Over time I’ve gotten to know a lot of the people who attend these socials, and it’s great to be a part of the community 🙌🏼 My two first bachata congresses will be with SM as well - coming up this summer! 💃🏻

I highly recommend checking this place out if you're a fan of sensual bachata. I have been frequenting Sensual Movement for about a year at this point. The classes are beginner friendly and very well ran. The instructors are also very friendly and patient which makes learning bachata an absolute joy. There's no shortage of great instructors here, I've had experiences with Luis, Tay, Shaggy, Jeff, and Myra. Literally world-class instructors.
As a beginner, the socials can feel somewhat intimidating at first. But once I got over my initial fear of asking people to dance, I was pleasantly surprised at how welcoming the dancers can be!
Some great social dancers I've had the pleasure of dancing with at Sensual Movement include Angel, Ines, Leah, and Aiko (I'm sure there's plenty more). Some may seem intimidating at first but many are actually sweet hearts. If you're in NYC and a fan of sensual bachata, Sensual Movement can't be missed.
Be careful with the instructor Angel. She will only dance with her favorite people and doesn't create a welcoming environment. Together with her gossiping and exclusive friends, people don't feel welcome at socials and is why they migrate to K-town.
Superb teachers, wide variety of classes, very convenient locations, safe and friendly environment, super organized (Tara is a phenomenal coordinator!), available several days during the week and on weekends, lovely students with humble attitude and strong desire to learn/improve their dance skills.
