THEY WILL SCAM YOU. STAY AWAY FROM PEOPLE IN BLUE VESTS.
We got off the subway and an official looking person met us and asked if we had tickets. We did t - we were planning to buy tickets there to go on Liberty Island and Ellis Island. Crystal said she could help us. I told her we wanted to go up in the pedestal, and she said that was sold out. I said I had seen a lot of availability that morning and she said that was wrong. I asked how much her tix were and she said $39 - I said I had seen tix for $24 online, and again she lied to us and said that wasn’t available. We ended up buying 6 tickets from her believing we were going to be able to get out on Liberty and Ellis Islands. We were escorted to a bus and we started driving away from Battery Park, which seemed very strange. They finally let us off at Pier 40, and while we’re were waiting in line, we found out it was a boat cruise only, and we wouldn’t be able to get off anywhere. We also realized Crystal had charged us $59/ticket ($354 total) We asked the workers for a refund and they said we had to call the company and dispute it. We ended up not going on the cruise, taking the subway all the way back down to Battery Park, and then I bought tix online that included pedestal access (like I wish I had done in the first place) - for only $130 dollars total - about 1/3 of what Crystal charged us.
I went back over to Crystal’s area and another worker said Crystal would never give us our money back and we’d have to call the owner. I had already tried the owner 5+ times but the call wouldn’t go through.
Finally that evening I got a hold of the owner - Luther McLloyd (if that’s his real name), and he said Crystal and the other workers are independent contractors and he has no control over what they do. He also said they work on commissions and will lie to make a sale. He said he would try to get a hold of Crystal and get back to me. 5 minutes later he called and had Crystal on the line, and she started right in accusing me of lying and claiming that she told us it was only a boat tour. I told her she clearly lied about the pedestal tickets being sold out and that she portrayed her tickets as being for regular grounds access. She yelled more and said she wasn’t going to give our money back. I told Luther and Crystal that we would report it as a fraudulent charge - and they didn’t care at all. Luther said, “That’s your prerogative.”
The whole operation is a scam. They make commission to sell their tour and only their tour. They will lie to make a sale.
I took a tour of Boston. I'm giving it 4 stars (not 5) because before the tour they weren't answering my messages and I even started to think I'd been scammed. They only sent me the confirmation the day before the tour. Óscar (the guide) is fantastic and very friendly; you can tell he knows a lot! The tour was excellent and comprehensive, highly recommended. Boston is a must-see!
We booked two tours with City Travel (Upper and Lower Manhattan and Washington, D.C.) and they were excellent! We highly recommend them. They were punctual, friendly, and professional, and it was worth every penny. Plus, the price was very reasonable and the van was very comfortable.
We'd like to thank our guide, Eduardo, a wonderful person and very good at his job.
I took the Contrasts Tour and the Washington excursion with them in NYC.
Honestly, everything was impeccable, the service was excellent, and they were very punctual in picking me up from the hotel.
The Contrasts Tour was very good and very comprehensive, as was the Washington tour. Spectacular.
I don't remember the names of the two guides (I think one was James and the other was Eduardo) who led the tour and the excursion, but both were very attentive and provided top-notch service. The Washington tour was full of wonderful surprises from the guide.
As for the vehicles, both were in perfect condition and very well heated, considering how cold it was. They were also very comfortable for me, as I'm almost 6'4" (1.93 m). If I return to NYC, I will definitely book with them again for the Boston excursion.
