I had a genuinely bizarre and disappointing experience at this pilates studio.
I am currently in my second trimester of pregnancy and I sought out this studio specifically because they advertise prenatal pilates on their website.
I called the studio and was told I would be very welcome, and advised to take two private lessons and then could join group classes, fair enough. After I purchased the two intro classes, they emailed me to say that they could not accommodate me in group classes because I am pregnant.
Their only explanation was that they used to offer prenatal pilates but no longer do and are in the process of updating their website. When I pushed further I was told that it was a "safety issue" and that "some other women don't feel comfortable having a pregnant person in group classes". INCREDIBLY Bizarre!!
This genuinely feels like a discrimination issue. I never asked for special treatment or accommodations, I just wanted to take group classes. Pilates is widely accepted as a safe exercise during pregnancy, in fact it was recommended to me by my doctor.
I don't think a studio should have the right to stop someone from participating in open classes because they are pregnant.
On the other hand, my private instructor was very kind and competent. I would have even enjoyed taking more private classes but this whole thing has left a terrible taste in my mouth.
I’ve been coming to this studio for years and have yet to find its equal. The small classes makes it so the instructors can really take their time to give queues and instruct on proper form so that you get a REAL workout while staying safe. The instructors really make the difference in any Pilates class and the ones at Core are the best! I’ve been taking Anna, Anastasia and Hannah’s classes for years and I’ve gotten so much stronger through their instruction. Can’t say enough good things about this studio.
I did private sessions until a few days prior to giving birth and have returned postpartum. The studio is clean, and the instructors are great. Special shout out to Anatasia, who I’ve been working with. She’s a stickler for form and has kept me feeling good while pregnant and postpartum.
Hands down, my favorite Pilates experience in New York. The space is beautiful without feeling pretentious and their teachers are the absolute best. You know you’re in the hands of people who truly understand your body and how to work with it for best results. Plenty of classes, both group and private options. I’m hooked!
I've been boxing for years and decided to try an additional way to improve strength and movement. I wanted the real deal, and I found Core Pilates. Hands down the best: a real Pilates session on all the apparatus, with precise dedication to the proper pacing, sequence and form with my teacher Bennett. It was so precise and his attention to detail was so professional. And let me tell you, it's the best kind of challenge. It's the real deal here. I have weekly private sessions.
