I went in asking for sizing beads to be added to my band to help prevent it spinning and being as loose. Instead, they resized the band, and thinned it out.
When I came in to drop it off, the older gentlemen and I had a conversation about how sizing beads would cost more ($220) than resizing and I said I was good with that because I did not want to remove any gold. We had good communication leading up to the pick up and I was assured everything was fine.
When I went in to pick it up, the gentleman that I spoke with told me to speak with the younger man about the pick up. I guess he was the one who did the work. I was shocked at the ring. Not only were there no sizing beads, the band was thinner at the base than it had been before. The younger man said he was not told about sizing beads just a resize to make it smaller. I then asked why it would be thinner at the base. He insisted that he added gold to it but couldn’t sufficiently explain why gold needed to be added if it was a downsize or how it would end up thinner.
They gave me a 35% discount for their mistake, which, to me, still felt like too much considering it was priced to add gold to it. They did offer to fix it but my trust in them was completely broken and I did not feel safe leaving my ring with them again.
Just went to get my watch fixed, as it had lost a pin and the clasp was loose. It was fixed quickly and for a great price, the store owner was super nice as well. Will definitely be back
Miracle workers! I brought in a ring from the early 20th century with huge sentimental value that had been lost in the street and stepped on before I found it….it was in 3 pieces, and one part was fully flattened. Less than a week later they had it looking good as new. Unbelievably talented folks.
This was a very professional establishment. They were kind, considerate, and knowledgeable. They did a very good job fixing my watch, I am very grateful and will definitely be returning in the future. Would recommend to anyone looking for jewelers repair. Thank you!
Quite disappointed by my experience at HMY, and frankly confused by the high ratings here for jewelry repair. I took in three piece: one sterling silver necklace for simple polishing, one pair of earrings for more complicated cleaning of residue, and one gold chain where the clasp had snapped off for soldering repair.
When I got the call that the pieces were ready and picked them up, I saw all three pieces had major issues with the repair. The gold chain clasp was soldered on at an angle, which would have made putting it on very difficult. The silver necklace had major residue on it and looked almost frosty white—internet seems to say this piece was over polished, and the earrings had major scratches on both the silver and the stone where there were none before.
I took all three pieces back in for another repair, and am giving two stars for the service and second complimentary repair. However, I was shocked to see that both sterling silver pieces came back with EVEN more issues, that in my opinion constitute major damage to these beloved pieces. Instead of re-polishing the necklace, it looks like pieces of it were actually ground down to get rid of the residue. Pieces that were rounded are now flattened, and there are nicks and dents on the clasp. Hard to see in the photos but now that the surfaces have been ground away I have no idea how it could be fixed again.
The earrings were just as bad—the earring backing was deformed in a way such I literally could not get them off and had to get them to take them off with pliers. When he “adjusted” them, he gave the backing to me completely bent and deformed. Extremely disappointed and would not recommend for any valuable or sentimental pieces. And to top it all off, it was not cheap!! $100 total, $35 for the clasp repair, $45 for the necklace polishing, and I want to say 20 for the earring polishing.
