The Vibe:

I’ve lived in this neighborhood for 20 years, so I figured I might as well never leave. I've spent over a month at New York Presbyterian hospital which is the best you can get in New York .

If you’re looking for a final resting place that says, "I spent my life fighting for a seat on the 2nd Avenue Subway," this is the spot. The decor is "Manhattan Pre-war Chic," which, let’s be honest, just means "charming but probably hasn’t been updated since the Giuliani administration." But hey, the awning is crisp!

The Amenities:
The funeral director John and supervisor Angel runs a tight ship. I’m pretty sure if I had a final request for a single-origin macchiato to be served in my casket, he’d find a way to get a barista in a three-piece suit to do it. The service here is so efficient that the procession probably only waits for two red lights on First Avenue. That’s peak NYC luxury.

The Location:

You literally cannot beat the location. Right on the bike lane! Perfect if you were the type of person who’d get annoyed if the hearse was blocking the way—they’ve got excellent sidewalk integration. Plus, they’re right next door to that escript pharmacy with the bright, happy lights. It’s a bold architectural choice that says, "Yes, your time here is done, but look! A sale on vitamins and CBD!"

I watch these guys bring out a casket and navigate the bike lane like George Costanza with the frogger game. Something most New Yorkers would remember and appreciate seeing. - The Seinfeld episode featuring George Costanza moving the Frogger arcade game across a busy NYC street is EPIC.

Final Verdict:

Highly recommended for the Upper East Side lifer. It’s expensive, it's slightly cramped, and you're always wondering if the noise from the apartment above you (or below you, in this case) is going to keep you up. Just like the building you lived in! You won’t get that kind of consistency anywhere else

Went to a viewing service today for a friend. A staff member greeted me at the door and gave clear instructions. The room was well decorated and homey. They had multiple corners set up with small couches and arm chairs for the family and friends to use. They were also very attentive, and provided assistance spontaneously.

John Krtil handled the arrangements for my mother's funeral this week and did so in a kind, compassionate and exemplary manner. Unlike most funeral homes that are now part of a large conglomerate, Krtil remains family owned and operated. We were treated with great warmth by Mr. Krtil, Omar, Noel, Angel and all of the staff. Mom had the dignified farewell that she deserved and I thank Krtil Funeral Home and recommend their services without hesitation.

My family and I were extremely pleased with the courteous and attentive services from the staff at Krtl. I was forced to arrange the funeral for my Aunt while out of the country. All of the arrangements were made easily and carried out flawlessly. Angel and Rob arranged for the Funeral Mass to be livestreamed so that I and many others were able to feel as if we were there to celebrate my Aunt's life. Many thanks to the Krtl staff.

Due to Covid and my inability to travel to New York City from Washington DC, I depended 100% on John Krtil Funeral Home to guide and assist me with every detail. I first placed a phone call at 4:30am and Angel returned my call at 5:30 am or so. Angel handled all the details with great compassion and provided outstanding service. I highly recommend John Krtil in times of need for their professionalism, caring and going the extra mile for my family.
