The Upper East Side Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is a welcoming and friendly place with highly skilled physical and occupational therapists, caring and professional nurses and nursing assistants, and supportive social workers who are always there for you to advise and guide you through the system. Helping residents to achieve their best level of functioning is the overall goal with all staff working as a team. I highly recommend this facility.
My mother was admitted to Upper Eastside rehab over 5 days ago to recover from a stroke. So far the nurses and nurse assistants are responsive to her needs, and they are constantly busy. My mom gets soft chewable food as she is required to have, and she seems to like it. I see other patients eating without complaints. They have different therapists visiting and a separate floor for therapy. There's also a floor for activities and entertainment. There's decent coffee in the lobby with limited food. And there's plenty of places to eat in the neighborhood.
My mother stayed in this facility for 3 months. The facility is a mixed bag as it has full strengths and weakness.
The physical and occupational therapy department is definitely the biggest strength. The therapists are dedicated and knowledgeable. They operate on a conveyor model, meaning that they work with more than one person at a time and it can be chaotic. But they will go an extra mile for you if you’re motivated and working hard on your recovery.
The quality of care provided by nurses and nursing aides varies, especially on weekends when they’re often shortstaffed. Some are hard-working and caring, while the others are not so. My mother who was bedridden often had to wait long to get nursing attention, or was told that her assigned aid is on break and there is no one else.
The biggest weakness is the discharge process. The social worker we had appeared to have no experience in discharging someone to their home. My mother needed services and equipment delivered to her home, and some of it was ordered late or not at all. The coordination of who does what during discharge is not optimal. I advise those with high needs to request an experienced social worker (if they have such) and agree on all details in advance to minimize frustration later on, when you can no longer reach out to them over missing things.
My grandmother had a wonderful stay at Upper East Side Nursing & Rehabilitation. The staff truly care about their residents and treated her with kindness, patience, and respect at all times. The nursing and rehabilitation teams were excellent, and her progress exceeded our expectations.
Communication with our family was clear and reassuring, and the facility was always clean and welcoming. They are also in the process of new renovations and building a new café, which shows their commitment to continuously improving the environment for residents and families.
Most importantly, my grandmother felt safe, supported, and cared for like family. We are very grateful to the entire team and highly recommend this facility.
My wife has just spent three weeks at this facility recovering from hip replacement surgery. There are not enough words to express how much we appreciate the care she received at your facility.
Facility is spotless and well-maintained. The entire staff has been incredible to her, caring, pleasant and very confident. I must give special recognition to Mohammed, who was her physical therapist. Thanks so much to the entire team.
