I had signed up on the platform few years back, at that time no farms were available in my area, last year or so ago they became available and they reached out to me. They helped me sign up and assured me of no extra pricing for this change to my electricity bill. They helped me through the process which was painless. Over the last year or so, I have realized benefit of having a net positive credit on the account and still feeling good towards contributing to renewable or sustainable energy. I would certainly recommend the platform to friends/family.
I have been a customer of CE for many years after discovering them at a sustainability fair in Saratoga Springs NY. They have saved us 10% of our energy costs, each month. It was easy to sign up and I am happy with their online access to our account. Knowing that I'm getting a portion of my utilities from solar energy is very satisfying. Keep up the good work!
I've had solar companies come to my door easily more than 10 times over the past year. While the salesmen's hard sell sounds good, in reality, the overall cost and long term lease commitment just wouldn't be worth it for me.
Common Energy has been a great choice to save on my electric bill. Though the cost Central Hudson charges to deliver electricity is still high, it's nice to save a little on the actual electricity. The bonus is it's produced by a solar farm nearby.
Community solar makes solar accessible to all. Clean energy at a discount to your utility standard offer service rates. I have been with common energy for over 2 years now. The service is great, but there are two areas where I feel the service could improve.
1) The billing should be streamlined. When we had 3rd party electric suppliers their generation charges appeared directly on our Utility Bill making the costs and billing much easier to manage and understand. Community Solar in our area is currently billed separately. It much harder to understand your costs and savings when you get two separate bills.
2) It took several months from the time we signed up for us to get started. That could have changed by now though.
Overall community solar is a win/win/win. You get lower utility bills (we are saving 10%), your using 100% renewable energy, and you don't have to own your home or make a large investment. As if that isn't enough, your also supporting a local solar farm in your utility territory.
When given the opportunity to switch to renewables and save money on my utility bill through work, it seemed like a no brainer. Registering was super simple and I like seeing my savings come through every month along with knowing that I'm running on a community built and run solar program, minimizing my carbon footprint. Excellent program!
